Lights Out Theme Song

2011; this is for the FX series

Yes, this show has already been canceled.

Too bad. It had a good and proper theme song and opening.

The Lights Out theme song is not officially titled, nor is it part of any commercial releases. The song, as well as nearly all music cues in the series, was handled by music supervision firm Thwak, Inc. Sound & Design, or simply Thwak! Music. You can see Lights Out in their portfolio in their official site (direct link not possible because of Flash-based site). But, to be more specific, Thwak music supervisor Anthony Roman is the one officially credited for the main title theme.

Actually, you can read all about it—the theme song and Thwak’s involvement—in this article. Now that ought to get the job done.

So now let’s just enjoy and relive the theme once again.

Terriers Theme Song

2010

Yet another canceled television series for archiving purposes.

Terriers is (or was) an FX original series that starred Donal Logue of Grounded for Life fame.

It had a good theme song, and it would have given this blog its share of search visits had it not been canceled.

The opening theme song for Terriers is officially entitled “Gunfight Epiphany”. It is by Canadian composer Robert Duncan. It is not “Steel Neena”, as suggested by the lyrics or as I have read from some video comments. Duncan’s official site confirms this. Also, Robert Duncan, as far as this site is concerned, composed the theme song for Castle.

The song has an extended/full version that lasts 3 minutes. (I think) it is available in iTunes.

Below are the complete lyrics.

Terriers theme song lyrics

Got a ride with a trickster and a javelin man
To a town down by the sea
Steel Neena was a girl who set me free, she said
I lay my soul out down to bleed

Fast hill the joker and the queen, the tables turn if you get what I mean, stand down with 27 men, what fire is coming over me?
I fell down, down to the bottom of a cold sea
And the church bells ringing in the middle of a gunfight
And I walk like a ghost among the living and the born free
Neena coming neena coming for you
Got a sign from the rider of the wondering road
To a run down farmers field
Where I’ll wait for the girl who waited for me, she said
By the crowd up or the tree
Fast hill the joker and the queen, the tables turn if you get what I mean, stand down with 27 men, what fire is coming over me?
I fell down, down to the bottom of a cold sea
And the church bells ringing in the middle of a gunfight
And I walk like a ghost among the living and the born free
Neena coming neena coming for you

I fell down, down to the bottom of a cold sea
And the church bells ringing in the middle of a gunfight
And I walk like a ghost among the living and the born free
Neena coming neena coming for you
Hell, no, son
Ain’t gonna get the gun
Seen a lotta things
And they’ve only just begun
‘Cause the minute they speak
Is the minute that I run
Ten clicks south to the border station

I said, “Hey, hey, son
I’m gonna get you sprung
Just keep on looking
For the sally port punk”
‘Cause the minute he speaks
Is the minute that you run
Fresh set of wheels
And I’ll see you at the don

Past thirty second
And the bakers got a bun
Sweatin’ that my Neena’s
Gonna get attention
Living on the lam is like living on the sun
Gotta to make it to Ysidro
Where I’m gonna be done

Finally, below, the official opening sequence of Terriers.

Justified Theme Song

2010; Ah, another properly theme-songed show.

JustifiedIn fact, in just one season, it was already nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Main Title Theme Music. However, because it did not win—Nurse Jackie did—I wonder if it could still win, let alone nominated. I don’t know what the “rules” on that one are.

On to the theme. The song is entitled “Long Hard Times to Come”, which is quite obvious if you’ve heard it a few times. It was performed by a group called Gangstagrass. Research says that their name comes from the genre they created which combines authentic bluegrass and rap. Quite weird but to each his own. Either way, the opening theme rocks.

Downloads

“Long Hard Times to Come” is not included in Gangstagrass’ one and only album, Lightning on the Strings, Thunder on the Mic, so I’m guessing an official soundtrack is yet to come.

Another thing, that Gangstagrass’ album is actually Gangstagrass featuring T.O.N.E-z. “Long Hard Times to Come” is also credited that way—Gangstagrass featuring T.O.N.E-z.

Another, another thing. In the Emmy’s, the credited composers were Jason Keaton and Oscar Owens.

One of these days I’ll get all these facts straight.

Anyway, below is the original opening sequence for the show.

Below is the complete version of the song.

Justified theme song lyrics (show edit)

The part used in the title sequence is actually just the chorus.

On this lonely road, trying to make it home
Doing it by my lonesome pissed off who wants some
I’m fighting for my soul, god get at your boy
You try to bogard fall back I go hard
On this lonely road, trying to make it home
Doing it by my lonesome pissed off who wants some
I see them long hard times to come

Damages Theme Song

2007-present

I heart Rose Byrne.

The theme song for Damages is entitled “When I Am Through with You.” It was performed by a Hollywood-based alternative rock band called The V.L.A. Nothing much is really known about this band, but they have a MySpace page, so I guess they’re still gigging around.

The song is available for download at Amazon.com.

Damages theme song lyrics

Little lamb…

When I am through with you
There won’t be anything left
When I am through with you
There won’t be anything left
When I am through with you

Sons of Anarchy Theme Song

Gotta love Sons of Anarchy…

Sons of Anarchy has had a lot of cool, notable songs since its conception in 2008. However, the main theme song in question is “This Life,” credited to a group called Curtis Stigers & The Forest Rangers.

Although Curtis Stigers is a known musician, I have no information as to the members and whereabouts of The Forest Rangers. However, there is an article entitled “Velvet Revolver’s Dave Kushner co-writes ‘Sons of Anarchy’ theme song.” Whether or not Dave Kushner is a part of The Forest Rangers, I do not know.

In addition, Curtis Stigers & The Forest Rangers is credited to another Sons of Anarchy-used song called “John the Revelator.” And, two five-song EPs (exclusive to iTunes) have been released: Sons of Anarchy: North Country and Sons of Anarchy: Shelter. I don’t know crap about iTunes so maybe you can just do a search.

Sons of Anarchy theme song lyrics

Riding through this world, all alone
God takes your soul; you’re on your own
The crow flies straight, a perfect line
On the devil’s back until you die

This life is short, baby that’s a fact
Better live it right, you ain’t coming back
Gotta raise some hell before they take you down
Gotta live this life

Gotta look this world in the eye
Gotta live this life ’till you die
You better have soul, nothing less
Cause when it’s business time, it’s life or death

The King is dead, the light goes on
Don’t lose your head when the deal goes down
Better keep your eyes on the road ahead
Gotta live this life

Gotta look this world in the eye
Gotta live this life until you die

Update (January 18, 2011); Belfast theme song update

As this post constantly ranks in the top results for Google, I have to keep the information updated. For those of you (us) who religiously follow SoA, you’d know that in the final episodes of season three, when the story is set in Belfast, Ireland, the show’s producers decided to appropriately match the opening and theme song with a sort of Irish remix. Anyway, below is the Belfast version. The video I got kind of sucks—for some reason it has mirror-image scenes—but it will work for now. See below.
