1984
I used to gaga over Voltron toys back when I was a kid, and out of sheer will power (and my parents), I got the biggest one. It was however, especially here in the Philippines, a little too Voltes Five-y. (Which reminds me to post about that, since it had a rockin’ theme song).
For Voltron, the theme song, as in just the song itself, is probably not as legendary if not part of the entire intro sequence. I mean, that opening clip was recited and reenacted, not to mention memorized by heart, by kids my age.
But before we skip to the opener, since this is a blog about songs, let’s give credit to the composers. Both (instrumental) songs used in the opening and closing was written by a certain Asei Kobayashi.
So without further ado, here is the awesome intro to Voltron: Defender of the Universe.
Below is the first part of the narrative.
From days of long ago, from uncharted regions of the universe, comes a legend. The legend of Voltron: Defender of the Universe. A mighty robot. Loved by good, feared by evil. As Voltron’s legend grew, peace settled across the galaxy. On planet Earth, a galaxy alliance was formed. Together with the good planets of the solar system, they maintained peace throughout the universe. Until a new horrible menace threatened the galaxy. Voltron was needed once more. This is the story of the super force of space explorers. Specially trained and sent by the Alliance to bring back Voltron: Defender of the Universe.
Crazy robot voice: Voltron: Defender of the Universe.
Then the formation sequence narrative.
