Captain Planet Theme Song

May refer to Captain Planet and the Planeteers TV Series 1990–1996 or video game (Nintendo) of the same name

“Captain Planet, he’s our hero, gonna take pollution down to zero.” Classic.

The theme song was written by the show’s producer, Nick Boxer. There’s an interesting video interview (with transcript) featuring Nick Boxer and how the theme song came to be in Mother Nature Network (click the links). However, there’s no information as to who actually performed and recorded the song.

The song was actually used in the end credits. As some of you might remember, the opening credits featured a short narrative introducing the powers and the rings. Below is the complete narrative.

“Our world is in peril. Gaia, the spirit of the Earth, can no longer stand the terrible destruction plaguing our planet. She gives five special rings to five special young people. From Africa, Kwame with the power of earth. From the North America, Wheeler with the power of fire. From Eastern Europe, Linka with the power of wind. From Asia, Gi with the power of water and from South America, Ma-Ti with the power of heart. With the five powers combined they summon earth’s greatest champion—Captain Planet! Go, Planet! The power is yours!”

Then below is the lyrics to the closing song.

Captain Planet theme song lyrics

“Go Planet!”

“By your powers combined, I am Captain Planet!”

Captain Planet, he’s our hero
Gonna take pollution down to zero

He’s our powers magnified
And he’s fighting on the planet’s side

Captain Planet, he’s our hero
Gonna take pollution down to zero

Gonna help him put asunder
Bad guys who like to loot and plunder

“You’ll pay for this Captain Planet!”

We’re the Planeteers
You can be one too
‘Cause saving our planet is the thing to do!

Looting and polluting is not the way
Hear what Captain Planet has to say!

“The Power is Yours!”

Below you’ll see both the opening and closing credits in one video. However…just watch first.

However, you soon realize that there is a dubbed commercial for the next show near the end which messes with the song. So, once again, I give to you the complete, un-messed closing credits.
