Toy Story 3 Theme Song

2010

Yes, Toy Story 3 is indeed in fact, more than just an animated film.

Not sure if this fits as a “theme song” though, but I really want to make an Oscar-related post.

Today, Toy Story 3 won the Academy Award for Best Original Song. Well actually, composer Randy Newman and his song “We Belong Together” did. It bested songs from the movies Country Strong, a film about music, Tangled, another animated feature, and 127 Hours.

Oh, did I mention that Toy Story 3 also won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature?

I guess “We Belong Together” can stand as an unofficial theme song. After all, it is played during the end credits—and it provides a good contrast and change of mood to the very-emotional ending.

The official soundtrack is widely available through (legal) downloads. Disney has been doing this thing wherein they choose not to release soundtracks of Pixar films on compact disc—pretty futuristic I have to say.

Here is the soundtrack from Amazon.com.

It contains all Randy Newman originals plus “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” by the Gypsy Kings. By the way, the soundtrack also won the Grammy for Grammy Award for Best Score Soundtrack Album for a Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media. Impressive.

And now finally, “We Belong Together”.

Toy Story 3 theme song lyrics

Don’t you turn your back on me
Don’t you walk away
Don’t you tell me that I don’t care
‘Cause I do!
Don’t you tell me I’m not the one
Don’t you tell me I ain’t no fun
Just tell me you love me like I love you
You know you do

When we’re together
Gray skies clear up
And I cheer up
To where I’m less depressed

And sincerely
From the bottom of my heart
I just can’t take it
When we’re apart

We belong together
We belong together
Yes we do
You’ll be mine forever

We belong together
We belong together
(You) know it’s true
(It’s) gonna stay this way forever
Me and you

If I could really talk to you
If I could find a way
I’m not shy
There’s a whole lot I wanna to say
(Of course there is)

Talk about friendship and loyalty
Talk about how much you mean to me
And I’d promise to always be by your side
Whenever you need me

The day I met you
Was the luckiest day of my life
And I’ll bet you feel the same
(Least I hope you do)

So don’t forget me
If the future should take you away
(‘Cause) you’ll always be
Part of me

We belong together
We belong together
Wait and see
(It’s) gonna be this way forever

We belong together
We belong together
Honestly
We’ll go on this way forever
You and me

You and me

Parenthood Theme Song

2010 and 1990 TV Series

Parenthood has had a long history. First it was a 1989 film that starred Steve Martin and was directed by Ron Howard. Then it was a short-lived television series in 1989—produced by Ron Howard.

Today (2010), Parenthood is a new NBC comedy-drama, and yes, it is still based on the original film.

As for theme songs, let’s start with the 2010 series. The Parenthood intro song is “Forever Young” by Bob Dylan. Below is the complete version of the song.

Yes, I know that is a sucky video. If you want to hear it with the original opening credits—NBC seems to have a problem with embedding these videos—click here.

If you’re having issues finding song, it is probably because the song was included as two versions in Bob Dylan’s 1974 album, Planet Waves (check the second, 2:50-minute version).

Then there’s an international version of the series, which has a different theme song. The opening song (international) is “When We Were Young” by Lucy Schwartz. Frankly, I do not understand why they do this. Below is said song and opening.

Then there’s the 1990 version. The Parenthood theme song for the 1990 to 1991 season is “I Love to See You Smile” performed by Randy Newman. See below for original opening credits.

Monk Theme Song

2002-2009

I might have a mild case of obsessive–compulsive disorder as well.

There have been two theme songs in Monk‘s eight-season run. Season one uses a jazzy instrumental song composed by American composer Jeff Beal, and performed by guitarist Grant Geissman. The song won the 2003 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Main Title Theme Music.

Seasons two through eight uses “It’s a Jungle out There” by singer/songwriter Randy Newman. Why they changed an Emmy Award-winning song, I do not know. But get this, the song once again won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Main Title Theme Music in 2004. Talk about award-winning.

The same songs are paired in the closing credits—for the seasons using “It’s a Jungle out There,” an instrumental version is paired for the closing.

The Jeff Beal song is included in the original television soundtrack.

Monk theme song lyrics(It’s a Jungle out There)

It’s a jungle out there
Disorder and confusion everywhere
No one seems to care
Well I do
Hey, who’s in charge here?
It’s a jungle out there
Poison in the very air we breathe
Do you know what’s in the water that you drink?
Well I do, and it’s amazing
People think I’m crazy, ’cause I worry all the time
If you paid attention, you’d be worried too
You better pay attention
Or this world we love so much might just kill you
I could be wrong now, but I don’t think so!
‘Cause there’s a jungle out there.
It’s a jungle out there.
