True fans would know that there were two profilers in the show’s four-season run. Ally Walker as Dr. Samantha Waters for seasons 1 to 3, and Jamie Luner as Dr. Rachel Burke for the fourth and final season. Now, because the opening video sequence is lead character-centric, it made sense to create a new one when Jamie Luner took over. As with the new intro, a new theme song was also put in place.

Alright, so now were know there were two themes and two sequences. First, I give you the Ally Walker, season 1 to 3 version. Watch below.

The tune above was composed by Angelo Badalamenti, whose best and most-recognized work is probably for Twin Peaks.

Then came the Jamie Luner, season 4 version. Watch below.

Better? It should. Composer Danny Lux was nominated for an Emmy—Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Main Title Theme Music—on this one. However, it lost to the titles from Trinity—a short-lived and another NBC series (Profiler was NBC as well).

Alright, so that’s it for this one. As far as this song is concerned, no soundtracks or other official releases are available, so you only have YouTube (or the DVDs).

This is why it is never a good idea to put a bunch of attractive people in one place, let alone one show.

The 2009 version should never have been, just like the new 90210.

Anyway, as we all know, we are in that time where 5-second opening sequences seem to be the new trend—it sucks, I know. Version two of Melrose Place is a victim, so let’s get it over and done with.

Below is the super-short title sequence for 2009 Melrose Place. Music is credited solely to Danny Lux, a regular here on Theme Songs.

Now on to the 1990s Melrose Place, the one with the definitive theme song.

On YouTube, the opening credits was uploaded by none other than CBS’ official channel, so it doesn’t get more official than that. (I realize the series was shown of FOX, but CBS released the DVD.) Below is their upload.

Of course, the video clips changed throughout the seasons, with the advent of new characters and actors, but the song remained.

The franchise released two official soundtracks. The first is Melrose Place: The Music, which for some reason did not include the theme song, and the second Melrose Place Jazz, which has the theme, where it is simply credited as “Melrose Place” (track 1).

The theme song is credited to composer Tim Truman.

Since that “theme song” is barely even a song, there probably wouldn’t be an appropriate title to it.

On another note, Julianna Margulies is quite hot.

“Searchin’ My Soul” was re-released in Songs from Ally McBeal (1998) and The Best of Ally McBeal – The Songs of Vonda Shepard (2009).

Most of the original scores from Ally McBeal is also credited to another familiar name in this blog—Danny Lux.

It had a great intro theme to it, which now after research, revealed itself as another masterpiece by the great Danny Lux—a theme song composing legend (Boston Legal, Boston Public, Ally McBeal, etc.). Some sites claim that is is simply called “John Doe Theme.”
